The Monroe Police Department recently formed a canine unit to assist with road patrol investigations and community relations promotions. The new unit consists of Cpl. David Foley and his new canine partner named Colonel, a German Shepard from Czechoslovakia. The pair graduated from an intensive 16 week canine training program administered through the Michigan State Police. Cpl. Foley and Colonel officially patrolled the streets together for the first time on January 9, 2003. Colonel is trained in both tracking and the locating of narcotics.
